Resumen de The altar-shrine of Santa Fina: local sainthood and church authority in Quattrocento San Gimignano

Linda A. Koch

  • An exmaination of the marble altar-shrine of Santa Fina, carved by Florentine sculptor Benedetto da Maiano between 1472 and 1477 for a chapel in the Collegiata of San Gimignano, Italy. The writer interprets the shrine's imagery and places the monument more securely within the context of devotional art of the second half of the Quattrocento. She considers as significant to the shrine's program the distinctive characteristics of female piety that have been recognized and highlighted by many scholars in recent years.
