  • Resumen
    • The writer discusses the results of research into the early years of animal painter Dirck Wijntrack. Some newly discovered documents in the archives of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, reveal that Wijntrack was born in Heusden before 1618 and was a member of the Reformed church. It has also become clear that he was already living in Rotterdam by 1640, when he married his first wife, Aeltgen IJsbrants van Beaumont. His early presence in Rotterdam and the similarities between his earliest surviving paintings and the work of Cornelis Saftleven indicate that he was trained by that Rotterdam artist.
