  • The article discusses the 17th-century painting “An assembly of birds (The courageous magpie),” attributed by Frans Snijders, located in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Kassel, Germany. The author describes the painting's narrative of a peacock and magpie and suggests that it is based on the fable “The Peacock and the Jackdaw” by Aesop. The author describes large-format animal paintings by Snijders and compares his work to other 17th-century bird and animal paintings.
