  • Resumen
    • The article discusses 16th-century woodcuts made by artists Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen (Jacob Cornelisz) and Lucas van Leyden for Amsterdam, Netherlands printer Doen Pietersz. The author describes Jacob Cornelisz's 1507 series “The life of the Virgin” and discusses the use of Biblical typology in printing. The author analyzes typology in elaborately illustrated French printed books of hours, such as the 1498 book “Heures a lusaige de Romme” from publisher Simon Vostre and “Die ghetijden van onser liever vrouwen” from the publisher Thielman Kerver. Other topics include the 1518 “Large Round Passion” series of woodcuts by Jacob Cornelisz and block books from Pietersz containing prints from Jacob Cornelisz and van Leyden.
