The article discusses two bronze busts in the style of the French Baroque sculptor François Girardon depicting the mythological figures Bacchus and Erato and owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The lack of provenance information for the bronzes prior to their acquisition by the museum in the 20th century. The potential that the busts originated in Girardon's workshop is examined, and the high quality of their workmanship is commented on.
