The article discusses the provenance of a bronze sculpture of a siren owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, with particular focus given to its ownership by the Roman Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte in the early 17th century and by the wealthy and influential Barberini family after the Cardinal's death. The siren is described in detail, and speculation on the circumstances of its transfer from the del Monte to the Barberini collection is presented. A drawing of the siren by the Baroque artist Giovanni Domenico Campiglia is also commented on.
