The article looks at the artistic and scientific legacy of the French-American watercolorist and ornithologist John James Audubon (1785-1851). Particular focus is given to his early works and the painting techniques he employed. His most famous work “The Birds of America” - a collection of life-size illustrations of a variety of North American birds - is also discussed.
