Resumen de "Landscapes in the New Italian or Antique Way": The Drawn Oeuvre of Matthijs Cock Reconsidered

Virginie D'Haene

  • The article discusses the drawings of the 16th century south Netherlandish artist Matthijs Cock. The author attributes various drawings to Cock, presenting the first catalogue raisonné of the artist's work as a draftsman. Also discussed is Cock's role in the development of Flemish landscape painting. Particular focus is paid to a statement made by Cock's biographer, Karel van Mander, which described the artist as a pioneer working in the Italian or antique manner.
