The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, recently acquired a bronze cast of Henri Gaudier-Brzeska's Bust of Alfred Wolmark. Made in the first half of 1913, the larger than life-size bust represents the painter Alfred Wolmark (1877–1961). The angular, faceted treatment of the hair and face reveal Gaudier-Brzeska's increasing interest in Cubism. Indeed, it was first shown at the Allied Artists' Association's annual exhibition, London, in July 1913, which marks it out as a very early example of sculpture influenced by Cubist painting.
