  • Resumen
    • Drawing on historical documents, the writer provides an overview of the furnishings of King Ferdinand IV of Naples' Royal Hunting Lodge at Carditello, near Naples, Italy. Clearly furnished with the greatest elegance, in its recurrent decorative motifs the lodge was an enchanting hymn of praise to life in the country. Four surviving documents shed light on the nature of its furnishings: an account (dated November 3, 1791) from Daguerre and Lignereux, dealers in the rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, to the court of Naples for goods purchased in Brussels; an account, dated December 1800, from cabinetmaker Francesco Girardi for restoring and making furniture for Carditello; an inventory, dated around 1806, of royal furnishings in the Magazzini alla Consolazione, Palermo, removed there from Carditello; and an inventory of the royal apartment at Carditello, dated July 1, 1808. This article discusses the furniture for the bedroom, gallery, and other rooms. Copies of the four documents are provided in an appendix.
