Resumen de "Phaedra's love" by Sarah Kane: Sex, violence, and religion

Susana Nicolás Román

  • The purpose of this paper is to show the social fragmentation of the nineties and the family breakdown. Through Sarah Kane's play, "Phaedra's love", we look at their characters to see a violent society in which children become animals subjugated to fast food, television and videogames. The play focuses on three main aspects of our contemporary society: sex, violence and indifference to religion. Sex becomes an urgent need to alleviate tension; violence is related to the lack of family stability, and religion can no longer solve our problems because the traditional family values represented by the church have lost their meaning. The tragedy of the family in "Phaedra's love" is a desperate cry to call our attention to the decay of moral values in our society.
