A previously unpublished letter from Sir Thomas Lawrence to Eugène Delacroix is discussed. Written in November 1829, just eight weeks before Lawrence died, this letter (the only one sent by Lawrence to Delacroix) is further testimony not only of Franco-British artistic relations during the 1920s, but also of Lawrence's attitude to the young Delacroix, whose Execution of the Doge Marino Faliero he had allegedly much admired and wanted to acquire. The letter is reprinted.
