  • Resumen
    • A recent series of exhibitions has given new life to the study of artist Andre Derain's creative activity between 1905 and 1907, when he and Henri Matisse were leaders of the Fauvist movement. This has made it easier to establish the chronology of Derain's work and to understand the development of his aesthetic during this time, particularly in his trips to London in March 1906 and January-February 1907 and the resulting series of paintings. The writer goes on to examine these visits and the paintings in the light of new information acquired from the archive of Ambroise Vollard, who sent Derain to London; from Derain's correspondence, especially with Matisse; and from a sketchbook that the Derain used in London.
