A study of an unpublished red chalk sketch attributable to Michelangelo (private British collection). The sketch depicts a male torso from the left with the arms raised and folded above the head and finds an obvious place among the studies for captives for the unfinished Tomb of Julius II commissioned by the Pope for St. Peter's, Rome, in 1505. The new sketch is particularly close in arrangement and scale to another red chalk sketch in the Louvre, Paris.
