  • Resumen
    • The writer introduces several drawings that may be plausibly assigned to Alessandro Mazzola Bedoli (1533–1608), and which show how he made use of designs. Bedoli was the nephew of the prolific and celebrated draftsman Girolanio Francesco Maria Mazzola, called il Parmigianino (1503–1540). Representing the third and by then enfeebled generation of this family of artists, Bedoli was lackluster, and his poverty of invention led him to mine the ideas of his uncle and other artists in ways that help to elucidate a wider consideration of draftsmanship in 16th-century Parma, showing the important role played by drawing in the transmission of of ideas among artists working in the northern Italian town. The writer identifies several works by Bedoli based on designs by other artists.
