The writer discusses works by the Bolognese painter Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, called il Guercino, in the collection of the City of Glasgow, Scotland: a pen and wash drawing formerly in the Burrell Collection and donated to the city by Sir William Burrell in 1944; and works from the collection bequeathed to the city by Julius Lewis Lyons, comprising two sheets universally accepted as autograph works by Guercino and five others with more or less secure claims.
