  • The article discusses the 17th-century paintings "Bacchus and Bacchantes" and "Offering to Venus" by Dutch artist Caesar van Everdingen. The author traces the provenance of the paintings and compares them to other paintings by van Everdingen. The author suggests that the subjects of the paintings are based on the ancient text "Eikones" written by Philostratus of Lemnos.
