  • The article discusses oil painting studies of heads by artist Federico Barocci from the collection of the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, Sweden. The author suggests that they are studies for the head of the shepherd and priest in the 1590 painting “The Circumcision,” depicting the Christ Child's circumcision. Other topics include a chalk preparatory drawing for the painting, other head studies by Barocci, and the provenance of the head studies from the Martelli Collection of Nicola Martelli.
