The article discusses the series of tapestries “Tenture des Indes,” or “Anciennes Indes,” depicting the South American Indies and located in the Grandmaster's Palace of the Order of St. John in Malta. The tapestries were commissioned by Malta Grandmaster Ramón Perellos y Roccadul from the weaver Etienne Le Blond in 1708 using designs by painter Albert Eckhout. Also discussed is correspondence related to the commission from the knight Jean-Jacques de Mesmes and ambassador Bailli Jacques de Noailles.
