A review of “Drawings by Rembrandt and His Pupils. Telling the Difference,” an exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, in winter 2009–10. This superlative exhibition and the impressive catalog accompanying it reveal that, while much progress has been made in differentiating between drawings by Rembrandt and his followers, much remains to be done. The writer goes on to discuss some areas of disagreement in the complex debate over attribution.
