An article attributing a newly discovered polychromed and gilded wood sculpture of the Virgin and Child to the artist Andrea Sansovino. Celebrated for his sculpture in marble, Sansovino is also known to have carved sculptures in wood, although hitherto almost no works in this material have been attributed to him. This article shows how almost every element of the Virgin and Child finds close correspondences with features of documented and securely attributed works by Sansovino, with the author suggesting that it is probably the only work to survive from Sansovino's years on the Iberian peninsula.
