“Horace Walpole and Strawberry Hill,” a traveling exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London through July 4, 2010, examines Walpole's Thames-side villa, based on his Description of the Villa at Strawberry Hill;on Strawberry Hill itself, today at an advanced stage of restoration; and on the celebrated 1842 sale at which the contents of the house were dispersed. The organisation of the objects is exemplary in its clarity and logic, leading the visitor on a route through Strawberry Hill, enlivened by thematic groupings on, among other things, Walpole's family and friends, his superlative miniatures and enamels, and his more modern acquisitions.
