The article asks how genetic data inf luences and changes the experience of intimacy.
Referring to empirical data of women being a so called ›carrier‹ of a ›faulty gene‹ the complexities, contradictions and ambivalences embedded in the experiences of undergoing genetic testing, genetic counselling and reproductive decisions are described. The intimate question to have or not to have children is on the one hand side inf luenced by personal likes, family values, familial work capacities and financial constraints. On the other hand it is illustrated how intimacy becomes regulated and governed by notions of »genetic responsibily«.
