Resumen de The Baroque exhibition in London

Simon Swynfen Jervis

  • A critical essay on the exhibition “Baroque 1620–1800: Style in the Age of Magnificence,” on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, until July 19, 2009. The exhibition explores the eponymous era in a currently popular thematic fashion, and there is little discernible sense of chronological progression or stylistic evolution in the display. Though the exhibition does not give a balanced sense of some of the traditional strengths of the Victoria and Albert collections, it does boast some very impressive loans. It is to be hoped that the show, which includes many remarkable pieces, will be a great popular success, leading to more exhibitions focused on particular styles, hopefully shows that will supersede this one in terms of how they demonstrate the origins and development of the styles in question.
