Resumen de An unpublished letter from William Scott

Sarah Whitfield

  • A previously unknown letter from William Scott to his old friend and fellow art student Harry Hicken is important for several reasons. Dated January 3, 1939, the letter appears to have been to have been prompted by the news that Hicken was going through a divorce. It is important, firstly, because Scott was never an enthusiastic correspondent, so letters from him are rare; and, secondly, because letters from this period of his life are even rarer. The letter is full of information as Scott takes the opportunity to bring his friend up to date with the events of the past 12 months. This article reviews the details revealed in the letter.
