  • Resumen
    • The writer discusses how Italian artist Agostino Carracci issued prints at the start of his career, when he was under the aegis of Bolognese printmaker Domenico Tibaldi (1541–1583). It seems likely that Agostino was paid for his work with gifts donated for his dedications, while Tibaldi pocketed earnings from the sale of impressions or of the plates themselves. This suggestion is substantiated by the discovery of a posthumous inventory of Tibaldi's possessions. This document indicates that Tibaldi could have made prints from Agostino's plates at his own initiative, possessing as he did the wherewithal to issue them himself. The fact that Tibaldi established himself as a printmaker and publisher in the late 16th century, involving Agostino in his workshop, speaks of his awareness and confidence in a local market for prints in which both Agostino and Tibaldi himself played a pioneering role.
