As part of the hardware series, I will describe how to build your own Startum 1 NTP server, I will give you the recipe for connecting an OEM serial for GPS device to a Soekris 4501 board and building an embedded image for it to operate as a Stratum 1 time server with an accuracy of better than fivemicroseconds. It is not only a fun hardware protect for a time-nut [12] but also results in a cheap piece of hardware that actually will improve your infrastructure at home or in the data center.
