Most people want their computer to be like their TV set: you buy it, plug it in, and it works perfectly for the netx 10 years. Suffice it to say that current computers -and specially their operating systems- are not even close. We will consider the job done when the average users has never experienced a system crash in his or her lifetime and no computer has a resert button. In the MINIX project, we are trying to get closer to that goal by improving the reliability, availability, and security of operating system.
