El presente texto pretende calcular la inflación mensual de alimentos en Armenia (Colombia) y compararla con los resultados obtenidos en el mismo periodo por el Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE). Para tal fin, se seleccionaron 100 alimentos procesados y no procesados, se escogieron cinco supermercados de la ciudad y a cada uno se le asignaron 20 alimentos que fueron comprados en dos ocasiones, la primera a finales de febrero y la segunda a finales de marzo de 2013. Posteriormente, los alimentos fueron agrupados de acuerdo con la codificación del grupo de alimentos del DANE y se les asignó una ponderación para calcular la variación de precios, tomando como datos base los de la primera compra. La principal conclusión que se obtuvo es que las variaciones metodológicas y de los artículos estudiados en el cálculo del Índice de Precios del Consumidor (IPC), unidas a las condiciones sociales coyunturales pueden generar distorsiones en los resultados.
The present text is intended to estimate the monthly inflation of food ítems around Armenia (Colombia) and to compare it with the results obtained in the same period by the National Administrative Department of Estatistics (DANE). For such aim, 100 processed and non processed food ítems were selected. Five supermarkets around the city were chosen and 20 food items that were bought in two occasions, were assigned to each one of them; the first about the end of February and the second about the end of March 2013. After that, the food items were grouped according to the encoding of the group of food items at the DANE and they were assigned a pondering to calculate price variation, taking as data base the ones of the first purchase. The main conclusion that was obtained is that methodological variations and the goods studied in the calculation of the price index of the Consumer (PIH), joined to the circumstantial social standings, may generate distortions in the results.
