  The first monasteries founded by the Dominicans in the Iberian Peninsula, reflect, in its genesis, the important influence that the Friars Preachers would exert in this region, with great prestige not only among the poorest population, but also among the Portuguese court. During the beginning of the Avis dynasty they received from John I in 1388, the administration of the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, or Battle, which is an monumental architectural complex, international project to promote a political image. For the study of the Dominican presence in Battle it will be used as sources History of St. Dominic, Frei Luís de Sousa and documentary compilation album put together by Saul Antônio Gomes, entitled "Historical and Artistic Sources of the Monastery and the Village of Batalha -Centuries XVI-XIV, published in 2002.

  Os primeiros conventos fundados pelos dominicanos na Península Ibérica refletem, em sua gênese, a importante influência que os Frades Pregadores iriam exercer nesta região, tendo grande prestígio não somente entre a população mais pobre, mas também entre a corte portuguesa. Durante o início da Dinastia de Avis estes receberam de D. João I, em 1388, a administração do Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória, ou da Batalha, monumental conjunto arquitetônico, projeto de promoção internacional de uma imagem política. Para o estudo da presença dominicana na Batalha serão utilizadas como fontes a História de São Domingos, de Frei Luís de Sousa e a coletânea documental reunida por Saul Antônio Gomes, intitulada “Fontes Históricas e Artísticas do Mosteiro e da Vila da Batalha - Séculos XIV- XVI”, publicada em 2002.
