  • Resumen
    • The article examines a set of proposals for large public monuments designed by Swedish sculptor Claes Oldenburg for New York City and London, England. The author is primarily concerned with the relationship between Oldenburg's proposed monuments, modern subjectivity, transatlantic travel, and urban life in the 1960s. The ways in which these monuments also examined the experiences of immigrants and tourists living in and traveling through the U.S. and England are explored as well. The interaction between the proposed monuments and the urban landscape is also discussed.
