Desde la década de 1980, gran cantidad de críticos deAmérica Latina ensayaron diversos modelos teóricos ycuratoriales para pensar y exhibir el arte de América Latina.Este texto analiza el modelo curatorial explorado por lahistoriadora del arte Mari Carmen Ramírez en dos exposiciones organizadas junto con Héctor Olea "Heterotopías: Medio siglo sin-lugar: 1918-1968" (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, 2000-2001) eInverted Utopias. Avant-garde in Latin America (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 2004). El modelo constelar se presentó como alternativa crítica frente al modo en que las artes de América Latina eran analizadas y exhibidas en instituciones de los Estados Unidos y Europa. Uno de los valores cognoscitivos de este modelo es que constituye una crítica al historicismo característico de muchas narrativas y exposiciones de arte no sólo latinoamericano. Por otra parte, el modelo constelar es también capaz de atender la naturaleza propia de la obra carente de un significado último, y factible de operar en diversas estructuras de sentido.

Since the 80’s, a great number of art critics and curatorshave developed different theoretical and curatorial modelsto analyse and exhibit Latin American art. This paperanalyses the curatorial model explored in two exhibitionsthat were organized by the art historian Mari CarmenRamírez and the writer Héctor Olea: Heterotopías: Mediosiglo sin-lugar: 1918-1968 (Museo Nacional Centrode Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, 2000-2001), and InvertedUtopias. Avant-garde in Latin America (Museum of FineArts, Houston, 2004).The constellation model is presented as a different wayto the traditional display models used by institutions inthe US and Europe to explore and display Latin Americanartworks. One of the cognitive values of this model is thatit criticises the historicism that characterizes many narratives and art exhibitions from Latin America and otherregions. The constellation model also offers an artworkconcept where the artwork appears without a final meaningand so is able to participate in different structures ofmeaning.
