  • The writer considers the perception of Dominique Vivant Denon on the occasion of the exhibition “Dominique-Vivant Denon (1747–1825). L'Oeil de Napoléon” and the conference “Vies de Dominique-Vivant Denon,” recently staged in the Louvre, Paris. Noting that both events adopted a holistic approach that embraced such things as Denon's roles as propagandist, collector, and museum administrator, he considers the alternation between myth and reality in people's perception of him.
