  • The writer discusses nimbus inscriptions in paintings by Martin Schongauer in Colmar, France. He examines two wings of an altarpiece, one showing the Madonna and Child, the other St Anthony, as well as another painting of the Madonna and Child, all featuring nimbus inscriptions. He presents a number of observations concerning the deciphering, origin, and function of these texts.
