A paper delivered at the 26th Deutscher Kunsthistorikertag in Hamburg, Germany, in March 2001. The history of the Kunstgeschichtliche Institut at the Reichsuniversität Posen in 1941–45 is discussed. The Reichsuniversität Posen (Poznan, Poland), a product of the Third Reich's expansionist drive, was officially opened on April 27, 1941. The writer addresses the development of the university's institute of art history and considers the aims of its teaching and research programs.
