Resumen de Blonde Roma? Zum Sinn des Blondhaars in der Buchmalerei der Reichenau

Ursula Nilgen

  • The writer addresses the meaning of blonde hair in the Ottonian book paintings of Reichenau, Germany. Light blonde hair appears rarely, at certain spots, in the works of the Reichenau scriptorium. In pictures of Ottonian rulers, the blonde hair may be associated with personifications of the German tribes. In Gospel illustrations, blonde hair seems to be associated with the notion of female beauty, but not necessarily with a positive moral valuation.
