  • The writer proposes medieval book painting as an important but hitherto overlooked source for the hermetic paintings produced by the Surrealist artist Victor Brauner in the 1940s. He reveal links to medieval art by focusing mainly on iconographic, stylistic, and formal aspects of a number of Brauner's works.
