The writer suggests that Andrés Florentín, who was contracted to produce sculptures for the wooden high altar retable (1499–1504) in Toledo Cathedral, Spain, can be identified with Florentine sculptor Andrea Sansovino, and shows that Florentín/Sansovino was paid for two models of the Evangelists but not employed to complete the commission. She also presents evidence suggesting that Sansovino played a considerable role in the planning of the tomb for Cardinal Mendoza in Toledo and could have been the artist who submitted the accepted design for the monument in 1498.
