The writer argues that a painting by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena, Italy, previously thought to represent Saint Dorothy, actually depicts Saint Martha. She also reconstructs the polyptych of which the painting was a part, and claims that for various reasons the Ospizio of Santa Marta outside the Porta dell'Arco, with its chapel specifically dedicated to Saint Martha, would have offered a highly appropriate venue for the polyptych.
