  • The writer clarifies certain aspects of the design of the lavish royal tombs in the Cistercian church of Santes Creus in relation to historical circumstances of Catalonia-Aragon and the Iberian peninsula during the period of their execution. Topics discussed include the use of porphyry, the changing political circumstances of James II, the formal and typological models for the tombs, and the “sanctifying idiom” of the tomb of Peter III.
