  • The article reproduces and describes a 1640 life-sized portrait of the Italian castrato Marc'Antionio Pasqualini executed by the classical painter Andrea Sacchi in Rome, Italy. The singer's pose, expression, dress, and musical instrument are remarked on, as well as the classical figures surrounding him, including Apollo offering a laurel wreath crown. The author offers historical background to the subject and his interpretations of the presentation strategy and iconography employed by Sacchi in the painting.
