  • The article discusses ancient vases collected by English diplomat and collector Sir William Hamilton, focusing on their reception and the reproduction of their images in early nineteenth century scholarship. It comments on the representation of these vases in the works of antiquarians and scholars including Aubin-Louis Millin, James Millingen, and James Christie. The author examines Hamilton's time in Naples, Italy and also explores the concept of aesthetic value and analyzes the vases as commodities.
