Resumen de Pour un corpus des tapisseries tourangelles réalisées sous François Ier

Étienne Vacquet

  • It is now possible to begin establishing a corpus of tapestries made in Tours, France, during the reign of Fraņcois I. Previously, the only tapestry known with any certainty was The Life of Saint Peter (Church of Saint-Pierre, Saumur). Thanks to recent research, it is now possible to add The Calling of Saint Peter (Church of Notre-Dame de Nantilly, Saumur), The Life of Saint Saturnin (Château of Langeais and the Treasury of the Cathedral of Angers), and the two pieces of the Life of the Virgin (Notre Dame of Nantilly, Saumur). In Tours, artists from Italy and from the Loire Valley encountered each other. They remained faithful to their own styles without, however, rejecting the Flemish tradition from the late 15th century and later.
