Resumen de Artistes et fondeurs au XIXe siècle

Catherine Chevillot

  • FRom 1818, date when the founders set out to organize their profession, a new jurisdiction is put into place, leading to contracts between founders and sculptors. Until 1902, when the law of artistic property is extended to the domain of art bronzes, the relations between the artists and the fabricants evolved according to an irregular rhythm, leading to impasses and subjected to major reorientations. The study of the archives of the Réunion des Fabricants de Bronze brings to these neglected aspects of the artistic activitty, new ligth on the history of the right of reproduction, the relation between material and intellectual property and the approach to take in respect to industrial production. However, at the very moment taht the question is finally regulated in legal terms, it is already left behind by sculpture: since edition took another path, going beyond the legislation which would little by little be elaborated in the 20th century.
