  • A study of Titian's ceiling painting La Sapienza (Wisdom). Wisdom is one of Titian's last major works realized for a location in Venice. It was placed in the vestibule of the Libreria Marciana around 1560. The writer goes on to discuss the genesis of the painting in the context of the history of the interior decoration of the Libreria, analyze the painting's subject matter, and demonstrate that the canvas was subsequently rotated by 180°, most probably around 1591–96 (in its original orientation, Wisdom would turn her face toward the rising sun and the Doge's Palace).
