  • Resumen
    • A ewer and a basin in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, can be identified as part of the toilette (washstand) commissioned for the new Princess of the Asturias, Marie-Louise of Parma. The washstand was commissioned in Paris between July and December 1765. It was designed by Philippe Caffieri and created by two Parisian goldsmiths: Thomas Chancellier and Pierre Germain. The material aspects of the ewer and basin indicate that they were part of this commission; they also bear the hallmark of Chancellier. Meanwhile, the archives of the goldsmiths' corporation show that Chancellier did not work on any other commission in silver in his own name and with his own hallmark during the period 1764–66.
