  • A discussion of the tradition of interests in the temple of Sybil in Tivoli, Italy, from the 16th to the 18th century. These interests, both antiquarian and architectural, would seem to date back to the research and studies carried out in the area of Tiburtina by Pirro Ligorio. The particular attention he accorded to landscape, historical context, and local cults acquired a highly polemical dimension in relation to the rigorous scientific method that Andrea Palladio applied to these same monuments in Tivoli.
