Resumen de Un pseudo-portrait du roi Charles VII par Guillaume Barbe
A portrait of King Charles VII attributed to Guillaume Barbe and sold in 2004 is in fact a fake. Barbe was a glass painter active in Rouen cathedral between 1456 and 1489. The obvious similarities between the figures in the portrait of Charles VII and windows still in place in the cathedral resulted in the portrait being attributed to Barbe. In fact, close analysis reveals that there are striking similarities between the portrait and the window known as Petit-Saint-Romain, which was attributed to Barbe and which disappeared during an Allied bombardment on the night of April 18–19, 1944. Careful comparison shows that the portrait of Charles VII is made up of elements of the Petit-Saint-Romain window.
