  • A discussion of the first two images of Fra Angelico's typological cycle Armadio degli Argenti (1450–52). The first, the Vision of Ezekiel, uses an abundance of text and specific visual signs to provide a discourse on the Bible. It demonstrates the relationship between the Old and New Testaments, the methods of Biblical exegesis, and the manner in which the Bible's various authors are instruments of the divine Word. The second image, an Annunciation, pursues the theme of the divine Word, with the angel Gabriel's strange wings both linking to the previous image and showing that he is enunciating the Incarnation of the Word.
