Resumen de La « spécificité » comme remède à la jeunesse des nations

Carmen Popescu

  • In Romania, the birth of the history of art merges with the creation of the Modern State. The participation of historians in this momentum establishing a nation, which was seeking to free itself and to affirm itself on the map of civilized Europe by following the most prestigious models, explains how the discipline has since evolved and adopted a political presentation. The major discourse of Romanian art history crossed decades without spectacular upheavals, while refining its instruments, its methods, and in qualifying its intentions. In filigree or in an openly militant manner, this discourse maintains a constant rapport with the political project, either by confronting the major themes of the national discourse, or by submitting to or even suffering the effects of geopolitical movements, with ail their hierarchical implications on the scale of artistic values. The article describes these evolutions, giving special attention to the years between the two wars.
